Help Using the parser

Speaking

Your character Awakens in their new home.. but where are they? How did they get there? And why are their memories so hazy? It's time to speak with others to find the answers they seek.

On this page, you will learn more how to use the parser to have your character to speak to others.

Speaking

Your character will speak any time you put text after a quotation mark.

> "Where am I?
You say, "Where am I?"

Other characters in the same room will all hear your speech (and understand you, as long as they can understand the language you are speaking!).

Of course, speech can also be used in conjunction with verbs and adverbs to describe how they are speaking...

> ask confusedly "Where am I?
You ask confusedly, "Where am I?"

...to add a simultaneous action...

> point erratically "What is that? And that? And that?!
You point erratically, "What is that? And that? And that?!"

...or to target specific characters.

> say to elaynie "I don't understand.
You say to Elaynie, "I don't understand."
> beg elaynie and kallistya "I need answers!
You beg Elaynie and Corporal Kallistya, "I need answers!"

Shouting

Certain verbs (shout, yell, scream, etc.) will also allow your character to be heard in any rooms connecting to the room they are in. For example:

> yell "I am NOT having a good day!
You yell, "I am NOT having a good day!"

Characters in connected rooms (in this example, in a room to the south) will hear:

You hear someone yelling from the north door, "I am NOT having a good day!"

Of course, if there are any obstructions (e.g., the door is closed), your character will be heard but their exact speech will be 'muffled':

You hear someone yelling from the north door.

Whispering

Conversely, using whisper will mean only the target of your speech will hear what your character has said. For example:

> whisper to chimeras "Someone is in a bad mood, aren't they?
You whisper Chimeras, "Someone is in a bad mood, aren't they?"

Other characters in the room will be able to see that your character is whispering, but not what they have said.

Meryl whispers Chimeras.

Unlike shouting, it only applies when whisper is used and not any other similar verb.

Sometimes characters may still use other verbs or adverbs to describe quiet or private conversations. Bear in mind that, while you as a player can see what is said, your character is unlikely to have heard someone murmuring quietly on the other side of the room!

You must be in proximity to the target to whisper to them, so if your character is not nearby, whispering to them will automatically move your character into proximity.

> whisper to Chimeras "Someone is in a bad mood, aren't they?
You move from the south door to Chimeras.
You whisper Chimeras, "Someone is in a bad mood, aren't they?"

Finally, using whisper without a target will whisper to all characters in your proximity.

> whisper unsurely "What should we do?
You whisper Chimeras, Watchman Assan and Nazrin unsurely, "What should we do?"
