FAQs

Intrigued but want to know a little more? You'll find answers to some of our most commonly asked questions below:

What is Castle Marrach?
Castle Marrach is an ongoing text-based roleplaying game, where all of the action takes place within a single Castle, far from the rest of the world. The setting is high fantasy, drawing on fairy tales, mythology, and medieval romances. It is at heart an entirely social game. It's by interacting with other people and roleplaying that you become involved with Marrach's story.
What is a MUD?
A Multi-User Dungeon (or MUD) is a a real-time, text-based online virtual world that combines elements of roleplaying games, interactive fiction and dicerolling. Imagine sitting with your friends around a TTRPG - except you'll type the things you want your character to say or do into the game window. Castle Marrach focuses on story-telling and roleplay over mechanical hack'n'slash - such games are sometimes called a Multi-User Shared Hallucination (MUSH).
Do I need to download anything?
No, everything is played through your browser, so you can access the game through any device and your character will always be waiting for you.
Is it free?
Yes! You can create and play one character for free. However, there is the option to pay and players are rewarded with perks for helping with the game's costs.
Why do I need to make an account?
As Castle Marrach allows players to make multiple characters, we use an account system to manage players' character rosters.
What do I need to know before I play?
Nothing! The joy of the Castle Marrach setting is that new characters Awaken with no knowledge of where they are, so you'll learn everything you need to know as you play. Our new character tutorial will however take you through how to use the parser system.
