Mysterious voices have been known to haunt some of the darker halls of the Castle. These aren't them...
On this page, you will learn about ways to speak out-of-character to other players of the game - whether to clarify a situation, agree an outcome, step away from your keyboard or just be friendly!
It is possible to speak to all characters in the same room as your character by using @ooc "[message]". Much like normal speaking in-character, you may also use adverbs or direct your out-of-character message to a specific character (or rather, their player) if you'd like.
All OOC communication in the room will be clearly marked as "OOC" - for example:
Special commands exist for letting other players in the room know that you need to step away from your keyboard - though if you plan to be away for an extended period, you should ideally roleplay leaving the scene and leave your character in their room until you return.
To let everyone know you need to step afk, simply use @afk, using the same rules for adverbs, targets and speech if you'd like:
And because we're all so nice, you can even welcome back someone returning from afk or a disconnection with @wb:
Generally speaking, Castle Marrach does not have a channel to speak with all players online at once. Instead, this kind of chat takes place on our Discord server.
However, NewlieChat is a global chatline open to all new players as well as Awakeners (characters dedicated to supporting the Newly Awakened) and players who have bought access to it with StoryPoints.
NewlieChat is used primarily by new players to ask questions about the game and its commands and is accessed by using chat "[message]". Unlike in-game speech, it does not accept targets or adverbs.
You can see commands for viewing chat history, muting specific players and turning the chatline on and off by typing chat.
Sometimes you may need to speak with one specific player but don't want to disrupt the scene for other players by using by discussing it locally. Similarly, sometimes you may need to speak to another player in a different part of the Castle. In both situations, pages can be used as a private messaging system.
To page someone, use @page [character name] "[message]". Unlike in-game speech, it does not accept adverbs.
You can see commands for blocking all pages (a 'do not disturb') or blocking pages from specific players by typing @page.
